Siddhant in Maithil marriage: how the Panjikar's approval works

By Vipul Chaudhary · Updated · 2 min read

Siddhant (सिद्धांत) is the Panjikar's approval that a Maithil bride and groom are not related by blood. A Panjikar checks both families' Panji records and, if no relation is found within the tracked generations, issues the Asvajan Patra (अस्वजन पत्र) — the "not related" certificate. Horoscope matching comes only after Siddhant.

When is Siddhant done?

Siddhant is done after both families agree to the match and before kundli matching. The traditional order is:

  1. Families find each other and agree
  2. Siddhant — Panjikar checks the Panji
  3. Kundli — horoscope matching
  4. Families meet and fix the dates

What does the Panjikar check?

The Panjikar checks for a blood relation within about seven generations on the father's side and five to six on the mother's side. Because the Panji records marriages, he can follow the mother's family, the dadi's family and the nani's family — which a gotra check alone cannot do. The rules come from the Panji Prabandh system started around 1326–27 CE.

What should a family bring?

A family should bring:

  • Mool and gotra of the bride's and groom's families (guide)
  • Names of the father, grandfather and great-grandfather
  • Mool of the mother, dadi and nani, where known
  • Native village and shakha villages
  • Any old parichay or Panji extract the family already has

How does Siddhant work on 7phere?

On 7phere, Siddhant is part of the match itself. A free Mool–Gotra check runs on every suggestion first. When both families accept, the Siddhant tab opens:

Step What happens
1 You request Siddhant and pay ₹1100 online (Razorpay)
2 Your details go to a partner Panjikar
3 The Panjikar checks the Panji records
4 You receive a digital Asvajan Patra, or a note if more details are needed

Is the online pre-check the same as Siddhant?

No. The free pre-check uses only what families type in, so it can miss relations the families don't know about. The Siddhant comes from the Panjikar reading the original records. 7phere never calls its automatic check a Siddhant.
